Sea and scenery

The idea of taking a swim in Sardinia’s crystal-clear sea is probably one of the reasons that brought you to our  Island.  Beach lovers can choose between the two itineraries suggested here; splendid oases easily reached by car or with public transport. It would be impossible to say which is the most spectacular and so they are listed here for their distance from the Hotel.  However you can be  certain that you will be spoilt for choice and have a great time trying to discover your favourite spot; don’t hesitate to ask the Concierge for any suggestions.
With all probability by the time you come to the end of your holiday, you still won’t have made up your mind but you’ll certainly have had a great time visiting them all:

Take a step back in time

Sardinia is a land rich with history and thousand-year old traditions, a place that can only be appreciated if you have some idea of what has gone before. Take a step back in time and discover the Island’s  identity through its history. Starting from  the Medieval “Giudicale” Sardinia, you will then get to touch the very stones with which the mythical Nuraghic Civilisation was built, discovering the rituals, customs, myths and values that characterised the inhabitants of the Island: Sanluri, Sardara, Collinas, Villanovaforru.

Culture and nature

Barumini is a small village with a huge cultural heritage. Spend the morning here in the midst of Nuraghic complexes and buildings in late Gothic-Aragonese style, a fundamental step to understanding the cultural syncretism which has nurtured Sardinia but has also been a source of numerous struggles. After diving into the past, why not take a break and enjoy the unique breathtaking scenery. The Giara is a basalt plateau of volcanic origins where Nature has managed to resist man’s domination and where every natural element lives in symbiosis. Here man is just a spectator to the genius and the  lavishness of creation in all its splendour. You will be able to see the famous “Cavallini della Giara”(Giara Ponies), who live in the wild, perfectly at home in this environment: Barumini, Giara plateau.

A train ride to discover wild and untouched Nature

The Sardinian hinterland reserves a number of surprises, especially for anyone who thinks that Sardinia is merely a summer coastal resort.  In actual fact, the inland area represents the throbbing heart of the Island’s culture; places rich with tradition where Nature is portrayed in all its wild beauty.
Why not take a trip on the legendary Littorina in pursuit of that lifestyle which only a journey inland can offer. You start from Mandas and will enjoy views of the Sardinian countryside from a privileged viewpoint. This famous narrow-gauge railway offers its passengers spectacular views of the countryside as it wends its way up hills and over bridges built across sheer drops.
At Sadali you will meet up with your guides who will accompany you on nature trails where water is a dominant factor and has created natural wonders over the course of time.  And you certainly won’t be disappointed when it’s finally time for a meal, Sadali offers excellent typical Sardinian food:
Departure from Mandas for Sadali –Is Janas Caves – Su Stampu and Su Turrunu – Historic Centre – Nature trails.

D.H. Lawrence’s Journey

Step into the shoes of a traveller from the end of the nineteenth century when travel was total discovery, adventure, mystery, contemplation. This excursion will allow you to have the privilege and the pleasure of savouring the sensations experienced by the adventurers who travelled around the Island in their search for exotic emotions and artistic inspiration.
David Herbert Lawrence took a 3 day train journey from Cagliari to Sorgono. We suggest to start from Piazza Repubblica in Cagliari by tram to  Monserrato railway station, and then by train to Mandas.
Follow in Lawrence’s footsteps on a leisurely train journey

In search of art

Art and craftwork in general have always been of the utmost importance for the peoples of Sardinia since they are a privileged means of expression through which the Sards have represented themselves, often acting as an intermediary in the relationship between man and Nature. Understanding the Island’s culture means learning about the creative side of her population. We will be able to indicate a number of artisans’ workshops, giving you the chance to further your knowledge of your favourite kind of craftwork. Decide what interests you most and discover the charms of these products which have been so skilfully and patiently made and which withstand the demands of frenetic and ephemeral time.
